Environmental Policy

Building For The Future

Like all other responsible organisations, we have embraced the need to reduce our carbon footprint and we can help you to reduce yours too.

Timber is widely considered the most sustainable of building materials.  It is non-toxic and biodegradable, and timber products can be recycled or burned as a biofuel.

Timber is also known for its thermal properties and by choosing timber as a building material, you can earn materials points to achieve higher Code for Sustainable Homes ratings.  The European Commission has estimated that on average, using one cubic metre of timber, to replace alternative materials, can reduce CO2 emissions by 0.8 tonnes.

Find out more about our environmentally aware approach:

Growing trees absorb carbon which is locked away during the lifetime of a timber product.   To reduce global deforestation, Frame Wise procures timber from well managed forests with good replanting schemes and full traceability, a requirement of PEFC/FSC certification.

Frame Wise makes every effort to minimise the impact of transporting our timber. Our suppliers ship the material from its country of origin to the UK in full loads to minimise the number of sailings and reduce damage to marine environments.  Once the timber is in the UK, our vehicles also collect in full loads to maximise fuel efficiency and minimise carbon emissions.

We have landscaped the area surrounding our production facility in Presteigne, and carefully maintain the trees and shrubs to provide food and shelter for wild life and to support the local eco-system.

In production, we optimise the timber required for every project to ensure the most efficient use of materials and to minimise waste. Off cuts of timber and sheet material, which cannot be used in production, are burned in specialist incinerators with extremely low emission values, to heat our facility.

We re-use the delivery packaging for our timber frame kits and any metal banding is clipped and recycled.   We take all other waste materials to a recycling plant, which has its own waste carrier’s licence, to ensure that waste is disposed of in a responsible manner.

Our delivery vehicles leave the yard fully loaded, to reduce the number of journeys made, and, where possible, we use smaller vehicles.

In recognition of our excellent environmental management system, we have been awarded ISO14001:2004 and we also hold PEFC and FSC certificates which are awarded to companies which exclusively use  FSC sustainably sourced and processed timber for which the chain of custody can be assured.

The management team at Frame Wise is fully aware of the possible impacts our activities could have upon the environment and of our obligation to protect the health and safety of our employees.

We are therefore committed to the continuous improvement of existing and proposed activities with regard to the environment and to health and safety matters.

We will publish objectives and improvement targets for updated environmental practices. Will work toward these objectives and improvement targets, review action plans at regular intervals and, where possible, conserve natural resources through waste minimisation, reclamation, re-cycling and other appropriate methods.

Environmental Training is provided to all employees according to job description and we fully encourage initiatives that contribute improvements to work methods, environmental safety at work, at home and in the local community.

The co-operation of suppliers and sub-contractors in recognising their environmental and health & safety responsibilities when supplying goods or services is sought at all times.

The company also operates in compliance with all relevant United Kingdom, Environmental Legislation, Regulations and Codes of Practice and is committed to do so as these statutes develop over time. In addition the company only uses timber obtained from sustainable forests traceable via FSC and PEFC Chain-Of-Custody for components that are destined to become part of the customers building.

Finally this Environmental Policy Statement shall be reviewed annually, is included in the complete ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System, displayed on relevant notice boards and is made available to interested stakeholders, employees or members of the public as requested.
