| Frame Wise dominate the three peaks challenge |
|
Veterans come 1st on 3 Peaks The Hereford and Powys Veterans 3 Peak challenge running team has come first overall in the A event 24 hour 3 peak challenge. Frame Wise is a proud sponsor of the team that includes our very own Production Manager Dave Lloyd.
Their aim was to take on the 24 hour 3 peak challenge starting on June the 20th. This challenge is to climb the highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland in a 24 hour period and is not for the novice or the faint hearted. On the first day of the challenge they started on Ben Nevis at 6.40pm, they were then driven to Scafell for a 4am start. Then on to Snowdon for an 11am start and finally finishing at the summit. The Team clocked 16 hours 42 minutes total, this included 11 hours travel time. Their total running for the 3 Peaks was 5 hours 42 minutes - Not Bad!
This is an improvement from last year's result, when the team ran it in 16 hours and 55 minutes. In 2008 the team ran it in 17 hours and 36 minutes in very poor conditions. The team put the improvement down to their new training plan where they would meet on a Saturday and start with 2.5 hour runs and build up to 4 hours runs covering 18 miles on the Radnor Forest hills and the changing weather and conditions.
As well as finishing 1st overall out of 38 teams, they were also awarded 1st team over 40 and 1st mixed team home. Celia Speake from Builth was awarded for 1st Lady on the Mountain home. The other members were Chris Good (captain) from Hereford, Dave Lloyd and Phil Jones from Presteigne Pacers and Jack Parry, also from Builth. The drivers who got them to each mountain safely and on time without any wrong turns were Ken Wright, Andy Tipton and Mike Speake.
The team wishes to thank their sponsors Frame Wise Ltd, on hearing the result MD Simon Orrells said "you can't get much better than that". This challenge was in aid of The Fire Service Charity. The next challenge for the team is the Across Wales event on the 4th September where the team will run 45 miles from the English border to Clarach Bay, near Aberystwyth. |
