Cutting Heating Costs

The main brief on this project was to future proof the house as much as possible but also to keep ongoing costs to a minimum in the coming years.

With this in mind, we put forward our twin frame solution, which has proved very successful over the last 18 months, achieving U values of less than 0.10W/m2K through the external walls and roof and an air permeability of between 1 and 2 mu’s. Our client realized that you have to use both to achieve the best results and by using our timber frame with a performance of 0.10W/m2K through the external walls, he did not want a leaky structure. The twin frame uses very few renewables, which again was a benefit.

The detailing of the twin frame gives maximum flexibility and good results for air tightness. The external wall structure was filled with insulation and then we fitted a Proclima membrane on the inside. This is a very high performance membrane and is made of recycled material.

The house was erected in just four days and watertight in a further 1.5 days. The house is so well insulated and with such good detailing, that the heating will hardly ever be required, which is a big bonus to the householder.

Twin frame is now being used in 1 in 4 of the timber frame projects that we supply so if your dream is to build a highly insulated eco home, then let Frame Wise do that for you using our twin frame solution.
